Description

Learn to use this wonderful, spontaneous medium in a supportive atmosphere with lots of useful tips and techniques that will give you good results. The course will include ongoing information about tools and materials.

Each class will have a theme and lesson that will lead to the next. Composition and design is always a consideration. If you are new to this medium or have had some prior experience, you will love all the information you will receive.

Supplies

Materials needed for Beginning and Intermediate Watercolor:

  • 2B and 2H pencils
  • Kneaded Rubber eraser
  • Sketchbook for pencil drawing
  •  (1) Watercolor pad – Arches or Strathmore cold press 11x14 for exercises
  • Tubes of Watercolor (Winsor & Newton Artists’ watercolors (Do not buy Winsor & Newton Cotman watercolors—those are student grade and will not work for this class)
    • Aureolin (this is a primary yellow)
    • Permanent Rose
    • Cadmium Red
    • Indian Red
    • Winsor Green
    • Viridian
    • Cobalt Blue
    • Ultramarine Blue
    • Alizarin Crimson
  • 15-24 well Palette with Lid (should be about 9” X 12” with wells around the outside and a large central area for mixing paints)
  •  Old hand towel
  • Paper towels
  • 2 containers for water
  • 10 Ultra round Loew Cornell brush
  • 1" wash brush

Additional items:

  • (1) 12x16 Arches CP 140# Watercolor Block (or watercolor board and 20” X 30” watercolor paper—Arches 140# cold pressed)
  • 1/4" flat (Winsor&Newton Sceptre)
  • Additional Watercolors
    • Cadmium Yellow
    • Winsor (or Thalo) Blue
    • Light Red (not available from Michael’s)
    • Cadmium Orange
    • Manganese Blue Hue
